Almost Free!

San Jose Del Cabo Baja 2013. This hard working vendor is on his way home after spending his day selling items on the beach to tourists. One of the more common sales lines they use is..."for you today...almost free". I couldn't help comparing those words to this shot of him walking in a paradise, a place where we as Northerners pay dearly to visit yearly, and him taking his meager earnings back to his family every day...nothing is ever nearly free is it?

Stones...moon over Havana 2016

Like them or not, it's an event! The Stones in Havana 2016. We sprinted to the front when the gates opened, ended up about 20' from the stage and held our little piece of ground for about 8 hours before the band started. Although the 4 remaining Stones would be nothing without their 12 piece entourage and their live performance cannot be compared to "Exile on Main St" or Get Yer Ya Ya's out", we shouldn't forget that they are pushing about 74. This was not a show about some incredible musicians, but an event, a historical one at that, one that Theresa and myself gladly spent 12 hours in the hot Havana sun to witness. Notes....about 1/2 a million people and very few bano's...the trick is lots of water and energy bars

Cienfuegos Cuba 2016

The kitchen/dining area of our Casa Particular. As I said, the marriage of color and character in Cuba makes for great photos. This Casa is pretty typical and a great way to see the real Cuba if you want to get away from "all inclusive's"

Trinidad 2016...pretty classy guy. We speak very little of their language which is really our loss as this fellow has seen a lot in his days I'm sure and would have some great stories. I am using a cheap Olympus camera here but can still demonstrate the color/ character pretty well. Trinidad is slightly touristy but worth the trip

Alaska Sept 2017

Haines Alaska 2017....both shots using 50-200mm zoom (duhh) with the grizzly shot from the safety of the Toyota Taco....he just finished off a salmon. We watched him swimming in the river, hunt and drag his food up to the bank, basically in front of us. Because these guys feed at dawn or dusk, I raised the ISO to give it enough lite which may account for the graininess. We were introduced to a whole new kind of tourism, one where aspiring and accomplished photographers congregate to capture wildlife on film, compare and tutor. There were probably 30 of us from all over the world with varying degrees of equipment and expertise. Its a great alternative to the older traditional hunt and shoot tourism

NorthWest Nicaragua 2012

One of my favorite places to get lost...Jiquilillo Nicaragua. Went with Colin one year and Theresa another year with a volunteer group out of Vernon, NFDV. This gave us an opportunity to explore areas that are way off the grid and help out at the same time. This was shot at sunrise and cleaned up with View_NX.
